Jasbir Kaur had been sent to jail on September 19 in connection with allegations of heroin smuggling. After being lodged in jail, she reportedly cited the need for her child’s treatment and was taken to Durg District Hospital on Wednesday.
While at the hospital, Kaur allegedly managed to evade the security personnel and escape. Her disappearance triggered a stir within the police department, following which a search operation was launched. Police teams carried out continuous raids to locate and arrest her again.
Police eventually traced Jasbir Kaur and arrested her from the hospital premises itself within just one hour of her escape. After she was taken back into custody and returned behind bars, the police administration heaved a sigh of relief.
It is also reported that two sub-inspectors had previously been suspended because of incidents involving Jasbir Kaur. She is currently back behind bars.
The latest episode has raised questions over the security arrangements surrounding the movement of jailed accused persons for medical treatment. It also puts the focus on the difficulties faced by other inmates who genuinely require medical care.
